Black teen burned by whites. Case ignored by the public

In early March, a 13-year old black teen was walking home from school when he noticed two older white teens following him. He ran up on his front porch trying to get away when they poured gasoline on him and set him on fire, all the while shouting "you get what you deserve, black boy."

The two white boys have not been arrested, and the public outcry was tremendous. Al Sharpton came in to lead a march alongside the teen's mother, and the "twitterverse" was awash in support for this family, and demanding the police find and arrest the two white boys.

This is a true story, except for the part about the support on Twitter. Oh, yeah, the part about Al Sharpton coming down isn't true either. And also the part about the burned teen being black and his assailants being white, that's not true either. In fact is is the other way around.

From The Mail:
"Police are investigating a possible race hate attack after a 13-year-old boy was doused in gasoline and set on fire.

The teenager, who suffered first degree burns to his face and hands, is white and his two attackers black.
His mother Melissa Coon said the attackers told her son 'This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve, white boy'."

The Treyvon Martin case in central FL is appalling, The public outcry deserving, and like most folks, I too believe that Gerorge Zimmerman was only looking at Treyvon's race when he shot him. I only hope that if this is the case, that he is found guilty in a fair trial and receives the full punishment that the law allows.

What bothers me is we only see this type of outcry about a crime when the victim is black and the accused is white. Anything else is ignored.
